Dr. Hailey serves as the English Department Chairperson and teaches freshmen and sophomore English classes. She has been employed by Chicago Public Schools since 1995. She was a member of the old Westinghouse Career Academy from 1995 – 2007, where she served as English Department Chair from 1998-2007. Her additional duties included Curriculum and Instruction Coordinator, Reading Coordinator, Lead Teacher, and Lead Literacy Teacher. She also served as a member the School Improvement Plan for Advancing Academic Achievement (SIPAAA) team and the Instructional Leadership Team.
After the school closed, Dr. Hailey spent two years at Manley Career Academy, where she served as Sophomore English Lead teacher and as a member of the Instructional Leadership team.
Prior to coming to Illinois, Dr. Hailey spent twelve years of active duty military service (U.S. Army) and eight years in the Army Reserves. She has received many awards to include National Association of Black School Educators (NABSE) Teacher of Year (2004) and a Golden Apple Finalist. She has been nominated for the Suave Performance-Plus Award, the Drive Award, and was featured on CAN – TV for being an inspirational teacher.
Born and reared in Savannah, Georgia, Dr. Hailey holds a Bachelors Degree in English Language and Literature, with a minor in Broadcast Journalism, from Savannah State College. She also holds a Masters Degree in Reading from Concordia University in Riverside, Illinois and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Argosy University
Additionally, Dr. Hailey serves as the Assistant Sunday School superintendent and adult Sunday school teacher at her church. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling and reading.
