Global Voices is an international cultural exchange program that incorporated the power to link students around the world through theater and play writing.
This year, our freshmen and sophomore Spanish for Native Speakers classes were combined to participate in this program. Every Thursday during 5th period, an artist named Emilio Robles came to Westinghouse and taught us the basics of acting, playwriting, developing a storyline and composing a play in Spanish. At the same time, we were able to meet new friends from a High School in Colombia who were also learning how to write a play in their second language: English. On June 6, we will meet with our Colombian friends via teleconference in our Distance Learning Lab and perform each others’ plays.
Meanwhile, we were able to film our very own play using the various resources we have here at Westinghouse. This play was based on the themes of teen pregnancy, relationship abuse, and abandonment. This video excerpt was directed, filmed and edited by Ms. Lin's sophomore class of native speakers of Spanish.
