The mission of George Westinghouse College Prep's Counseling Department is to serve the academic, social/emotional, and career development needs of all students through a comprehensive counseling program supported by the American School Counselor Association Model, the State, and the District. The counselor's role is to support students in post-secondary planning, impart knowledge to increase self-awareness, encourage ownership of their academic experience, and serve as the liaison between school, home, and community. Our students will gain the skills needed to successfully manage challenges to become responsible citizens in their community and society.
The vision of the counseling department at GWCP is to practice a data-driven comprehensive guidance program that addresses the needs of all students through a holistic and culturally sensitive approach. We will strive to close the achievement gap by providing services in alignment to the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Model that meet the unique social and emotional, academic and college and career developmental needs of our population.
Your counselor, together with your advisory teacher, will provide support in selecting colleges and careers, academic evaluations, and continuous support for your success. In addition to academic support, counselors also provide confidential counseling for personal issues. The counseling offices are located within the main office. Students are encouraged to meet with the counselor during their lunch period or before or after school.
